Whew!

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

It’s been a while since I posted. Here are some highlights of our recent activities:

The weekend before last Aunt Lorien & Uncle Jake came to visit and they took us to the Pirate Festival. Scarlet STILL can’t stop talking about Pirates. She got pirate money and saw sword fights (which she practices with her eating utensils) and saw a pirate band and went on a pirate slide and a pirate even made her a balloon shaped like a flower! It was a blast:) Unfortunately, mom didn’t bring the camera:( Thanks again Jake and Lorien!

Right after Jake and Lorien, Papa Les came for a visit. Of course he spoiled us rotten and played with Scarlet non-stop. Here are some pics from his visit:

She had a BLAST!

And alas, this last weekend we went to Fir Creek Farms and got to see Chickens, bunnies, a cow, goats and Pumpkins.  There was a corn shooting cannon, a big slide, tattoos and a “nut house” (a whole cabin filled with hazelnuts that you could play in!)  Scarlet fell asleep on the way home–which doesn’t happen very often these days!  A sure sign she enjoyed herself.

I *HEART* the Bins!

Friday, September 12th, 2008

We made a trip to the Goodwill outlet store on Thursday, a.k.a. the bins and got SOOO much good stuff!

Time spent: 2.5 hours Money spent: 14.50 (plus 1.49 for a diet coke–digging is hard work!)

Came home with the following for Scarlet (sizes 3t-6):

8 little t-shirts (Scarlet’s faves: Tinkerbell & Lilo)

2 adorable sweatshirts (Scarlet’s fave: Sleeping Beauty, My fave: cute little horse print)

1 pair super cute little gap flared jeans

2 little pairs little cotton pants

2 little pairs pajama pants

2 cute little tank tops

2 sweet little skirts

1 pair little shorts

3 adorable cotton blouses

1 adorable cordoroy jacket (that won’t fit her for like 4 years but it was too cute to not get)

1 bonnet (so cute)

Bonus: For me!

2 t-shirts

1 skirt/shorts

1 long sleeved shirt

1 cotton button up blouse

3 wool sweaters for my felting adventures

1 really nice 6X6 wooden frame

2 yards of cotton fabric for my sewing adventures

ALMOST everything was stain free–I bought one t-shirt for Scarlet that has a small stain on the front that I want to applique something onto so it won’t matter;) No rips, all zippers work. How fabulous is that? All for 14.50! I am officially addicted. Props for Grandma for watching Scarlet so I could go in the first place (that place is too crazy to bring babies to!)

For those of you who haven’t heard of the bins–They sell clothes for 1.59 a pound:)

Ballet in the Park Blocks

Friday, September 5th, 2008

I thought for SURE Scarlet would LOVE watching the Ballerinas practice in the park blocks downtown, but it turns out that she was way more interested in running around, picking up acorns, checking out the other kids and most importantly–climbing on the sculptures.

She cried when we had to say good-bye to the coyote sculpture near the Portland Art Mueseum. Sorry, honey–we can’t take him home–we already have an “Ula”.

Scarlet LOVES crayons!

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

She loves to BREAK them, and then meticulously peel off their little paper sweaters. What to do with boxes full of broken peeled crayons? Make bigger+better crayons!

We grouped them in like-colors(ish) and baked them at 225.

Tah Dah! Brand new fist size crayons that are SUPER fun to stack or to pretend they are cupcakes and cookies and feed to mom and dad.

P.S. It’s easier to get them out of the muffin tin if you put them in the freezer for a bit–the wax will shrink slightly and they will pop right out. Don’t hand them straight to the kid though–When they are cold they will break easier. (Scarlet cried when she broke one of her new crayon/cookies.)
