Happenings

Tuesday, November 15th, 2005

I’ve been teaching a few classes at YMCA–The last of this series “Altered Books/Bookmaking” will be tonight at the YMCA Arts center. More workshops are in the works for next year (watch my website for details) and I’m also teaching an Encaustics class with Holly Capello in December at Collage on NE Alberta in Portland, OR.

Besides that, I feel sort of like I’ve dropped off the face of the earth art-wise the last few months. I do plan to make a comeback soon, though. The reason I have been slacking is because I am almost 11 weeks pregnant, and this being my first trimester so I am sleepy and low energy all the time. From what I understand, by the 13th week or so it will wear off and I will get my energy back. I hope so!

Window Treatment

Thursday, September 22nd, 2005

I needed to obscure the view through a window in my house (cause I live in the hood and I don’t want anybody to steal my stuff!) So I made 4X4″ window “tiles” out of Crayola window decal paint that I purchased at Fred Meyer.

I decided on 4X4 so that when I butted them up against eachother they would fill my particular window, and also because the plastic sheet (provided with the paint) you use to squeeze the paint onto is just a little bit bigger than that. Here’s a pic of a few of them:

Window Decals

To make your own:

-buy some decal paint (crayola is easy to find but there are also different brands at art supply stores)

- Draw your image on a sheet of paper (make it simple and consider the size of the plastic sheet provided)

-place the plastic sheet over your drawing for a guide and paint away.

Let them dry for twenty four hours before peeling them off the plastic sheet (like a fruit roll up!) , put it on your window, and repeat until you’ve filled it up (I’m still working on that part).

Have fun!
